GULF SHORES, Ala. - The Union University softball team posted a split on the opening day of the 2020 season. Union defeated Tuskegee 4-1 in the first game, then dropped a heartbreaker, 1-0 to Drury University in the second game. 

In the win over Tuskegee, Union scored two in the first inning when Gabby Morris reach on an error, scoring two runners. Union added a run in the fourth and fifth to lead 4-0. Idalia Alarcon drove in Peyton Mathis in the fourth and Morris homered to centerfield in the fifth. Mathis led Union with two hits, while Morris led with two RBI. Morris also got the win, tossing a complete game, allowing one run on eight hits with 11 strikeouts. 

In the loss to Drury, neither team scored until Drury got the games only run in the bottom of the sixth. An RBI double from Ummel gave the Panthers the lead and eventual win. Union had four hits from four different players. Parker Davis took the loss, allowing one run on eight hits in a complete-game effort. 

Union plays two more games in the Gulf Shores Classic, February 2.
