JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University men's basketball lost 67-63 in their home opener against the University of Alabama in Huntsville Friday afternoon. Union dropped to 2-1 on the season and 2-1 in the Gulf South Conference – West Division. Alabama Huntsville improved to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the GSC West.
Union's
Hunter Vick made the first bucket for the Bulldogs with a 3-pointer. That would put the Bulldogs up 3-2 and the lead would go back and forth from there in a tightly contested matchup. UAH would go on an 11-0 to start the second half, however Union stopped the run with a 3-pointer by
Hunter Vick. Union was winning at halftime with a score of 40-36.
Union was led by
Hunter Vick with 17 points.
JC Hawkins added nine points. Freshman duo
Justin Debuck and
Jeremiah Littlepage both added eight. Debuck and Hawkins led the team in rebounds with nine a piece. Union shot 40 percent (24-60) from the field, 30 percent from long range (10-33), and 83 percent (5-6) from the free throw line.
Alabama Huntsville was led by Sam Orf with 28 points. Seth Swalve added 21 points. The Chargers shot 42 percent from the field, 27 percent (8-29) from 3-point range, and 75 percent (15-20) from the free throw line.
