JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University baseball team posted a 14-7 win over Ouachita Baptist University Friday night at Fesmire Field. The teams battled through wet, foggy conditions on a cool night in Jackson. It was the season opener for both teams.
The night belonged to junior outfielder
Josh Bozoian who finished 4-for-5 with six RBI, four runs, and two home runs, including a grand slam.
With Union down 3-2 in the fourth, Bozoian hit his first homer of the night to the opposite field, driving in
Garrett Guymon. Then in the fifth, with Union still leading 4-3, Bozoian drove a towering fly ball over the left-center field wall to put Union up 8-4.
Ouachita Baptist got as close as 8-5 in the sixth and 10-7 in the eight, but Union was able to answer the rallies each time.
Union put the game away with four runs in the eighth. Union scored in five of the eight at-bats, putting up at least two runs in each inning.
Union starter
Ryan Mets (1-0) earned the win, tossing five innings and allowing three runs on four hits with six strikeouts.
Andrey Arnett took care of middle relief for the Bulldogs, going three innings with four runs on five hits and five strikeouts.
Sam McMillin tossed the ninth inning, facing just four batters with one strikeout.
Six players combined for 10 hits for Union led by Bozoian's four.
Ryan Lee was 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs after he entered the game in the second inning.
Tyler Thomas,
Dacoda Stone, Guymon, and
Patrick Music each added one hit. Thomas,
Drew Hill, and Stone each added one RBI.
