MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The Union University volleyball team posted a 3-1 (25-22, 15-25, 25-14, 25-18) win at the University of Montevallo Friday night. Union improved to 8-5 overall and 2-0 in the Gulf South Conference. Montevallo dropped to 7-7 on the season and 1-1 in league play.
Union jumped out to a 7-2 lead early in set one and led 20-14 late. Montevallo cut the deficit to one, but never led in the set. With Union leading 23-22, Union scored the final two points for the win.
Montevallo dominated set two, winning 25-15, while Union returned the favor in set three, winning 25-14. Union led 2-sets-to-1.
In the fourth set, Union scored first again on its way to a quick 9-3 lead. Union extended out to a 14-6 lead. Montevallo cut the deficit to as close as three points, but a 5-0 run for Union extended the margin to eight, 22-15. Union closed out the match with a 25-18.
Union posted a .222 hitting percentage for the game, leading Montevallo 50-41 in kills. Union also led 9-8 in aces, 10-5 in blocks, and 77-68 in digs.
Union was led by
Meghan Delaney with 15 kills.
Jordan Vick led with four aces,
Emily Grace Calhoon led with six blocks, Vick with 30 assists, and
Abbie Rahn with 29 digs.
Up next for Union is a 2 p.m. match, Saturday, September 28 at Alabama Huntsville.
