JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University softball team fell to No. 1 University of West Florida 5-3 Friday evening. The Lady Bulldogs drop to 11-8 in the Gulf South Conference and 24-16 on the season. The Argonauts improve to 17-2 in conference play and 34-5 overall.
West Florida scored first in the third inning. Samantha McDaniel hit a double to right field to start the Lady Bulldog's rally. Haley Barnette doubled to right center field to score three runs for the Lady Bulldogs. The Argonauts scored two more runs in the fourth inning to tie the ball game at 3. In the fifth inning, West Florida scored another run to pull ahead 4-3. Grace Gilbert added added an insurance run in the top of the seventh for the Argonauts.
Parker Davis started the ball game pitching 3.2 innings, giving up three runs off of three hits with one strikeout and one walk. Gabby Morris (8-9) took the loss for the Lady Bulldogs after tossing 3.1 innings in relief, giving up two runs off of seven hits with two strikeouts and three walks.
Davis and Morris pitched out of several jams, stranding 11 runners in the game.
Union will finish the GSC series against West Florida Saturday, April 6 at 12 p.m.
