JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University softball team swept Lane in a double-header on Wednesday afternoon, 14-1 (5) and 4-1. The Lady Bulldogs improved to 27-22 on the season. The Lady Dragons dropped to 18-16 overall.
In the first game,
Harley Bartholomew started a 12 run rally with a single to third base.
Alyssa Ward scored
Harley Bartholomew with a single to shortstop and
Kaitlyn Kelley followed suit singling to right field to score Ward.
Haley Barnette doubled to right center to score Kelley and a sacrifice fly from
Parker Davis scored Barnette.
Samantha McDaniel recorded her first triple on the season bringing in three runs with it. The Lady Bulldogs doubled back around to the top of the line up in the first inning when Kelley doubled up the middle to score two more runs and Barnette hit a 2-run single followed by a RBI double from
Sarah Smith.
Lane scored their lone run in the top of the third inning. Union scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth to win, 14-1.
Union recorded 15 hits on the game, nine hits came in the first inning. Kelley and Barnette led with three hits each. Kelley led with four RBI. Davis (11-8) recorded the win for the Lady Bulldogs after pitching 3.0 innings giving up one run off of one hit with one walk and six strikeouts.
Taylor Manley pitched two innings in relief giving up one hit with two strikeouts.
Lane started the second game off with a RBI single. It wasn't until the fourth inning that Union was able to get on the board with an RBI single from Smith. In the fifth inning Bartholomew hit an RBI single to score
Peyton Mathis followed by Manley's two run single to right field. The Lady Bulldogs finished with a 4-1 win.
Manley led with two RBI.
Gabby Morris (10-14) recorded the win for the Lady Bulldogs after pitching six innings and giving up one run off of three hits with three walks and twelve strikeouts.
Ashley Graves recorded her first save of the season after pitching one inning, giving up no runs with one strikeout.
Up next for Union is their final conference series against Christian Brothers University on Saturday, April 27 at 1 p.m. Senior recognitions begin 15 minutes before the first game.
