Union volleyball tops UAH 3-1

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University volleyball team posted a 3-1 (30-28, 20-25, 25-23, 26-24) victory over Alabama Hunstville Friday Night. Union improved to 18-10 overall and 10-3 in the Gulf South Conference. Alabama Hunstville dropped to 21-8 on the season and 11-2 in league play. 

The 10th GSC win for Union marks the most GSC wins for Union since joining the league in 2012. The 18th wins on the season also marks a new NCAA Division II era best. 

Union hit .252 in the match while UAH hit .217. UAH led 63-56 in kills and 58-55 in digs. Union led in blocks 16-8, while aces were tied with 7. 

In the first set, Union jumped out to a 7-1 lead. After trading points and a six-point run by UAH, Union was able to win the set 30-28. In the second set, Union and UAH traded points until UAH went on another six-point run to take the lead 20-16. UAH went on to win the set and tie the match 1-1. In a closely played third set, Union edged UAH 25-23. 

The Chargers scored first in the fourth set, but the Lady Bulldogs answered with three straight points and took a 3-1 lead. There were seven lead changes before the Lady Bulldogs claimed the 26-24 win with a kill by Emily Grace Calhoon.  

Union was led by Meghan Delaney with 24 kills. Calhoon and Haley Ramsey added 10 and 8 kills respectively. Laura Rose Gray led with eight blocks, Jordan Vick led with 43 assists, and Abbie Rahn with 17 digs. 

Union will continue its 3-game homestand with its final regular season home game Saturday, November 9 at 2 p.m. against Montevallo for Senior Day.
