Pensacola, Fla. - The Union University women's volleyball team fell 3-0 (35-33, 25-15, 25-16) at the GSC Tournament. With the loss Union is now 21-12 overall.
The 21 wins for Union is the most for the volleyball program in the NCAA D2 era (2012-present).
West Florida led in kills (52-45), blocks (20-14), assists (50-38), and digs (77-59).
In the first set Union jumped out and got the first point from a kill by
Laura Rose Gray. From there The Argos took the lead to 6-2 where Union used their first timeout of the set. Following the timeout Union got the next two points and brought it back to 6-4. West Florida began a small run but Union managed to bring it within one later in the set at 7-8. Union finally tied it at 10-10 with a
Meghan Delaney kill. From there it was back and forth all the way to a timeout by the Argos after Union took a 14-13 lead. Union would be the first team to 20 after a kill by
Haley Ramsey. Union would take their second, and last timeout of the first set after a West Florida point would push the score to a lead of 23-22 for the Argos. Union would tie the game at 24 with a kill by
Emily Grace Calhoon, forcing the winner to have a 2 point lead. After Union took a 26-25 lead West Florida used their last timeout of the set. The score would surpass 30 after Union would take a 32-31 lead. West Florida would end up taking the set 35-33. The first set of play would hold 11 lead changes and 24 tie scores.
The second set would entail another back and forth affair. Union would take the first timeout of the set with a score of 8-6 with the Argos ahead. West Florida would push ahead and make the score 17-9, which is when Union would take their last timeout of the set. The Argos would be the first to twenty at a score of 20-11. West Florida would take the second set 25-15. Through two sets, the Argos led the kill battle 37-33, led assists 35-28, and led blocks 14-12. Â
Union would fight hard in the third set and would take their final timeout with a score of 21-13. West Florida would close it out at 25-16.
