OAKLAND CITY, Ind. - The Union University men's soccer team stepped out of conference play and posted a 3-1 victory at Oakland City University Saturday afternoon. Union improved to 7-7 overall, while Oakland City dropped to 5-11-2 on the season.
Oakland City scored first with an early goal in the 10th minute of play. Union trialed 1-0 at the half. Nine minutes into the second half, Union's
Cole Asfour tied the match with a goal, assisted by
Gavin Scott. Just four minutes later, Union took the lead with
Martin Knudsen's game-winning goal in the 63rd minute. Union added a final goal in the 85th minute when Jacob Green made the score 3-1.
Union outshot Oakland City 16-6 in the game, including 9-3 in shots on goal. The shots were even at 4-4 in the first half, with Union dominated the second half 12-2 in shots.
Euan Morton recorded two saves in his 90 minutes of work in goal. Scott led Union with five shots in the match.
Union returns home with two home games next week. First, is a non-conference make up game from earlier this season, Tuesday, November 5 versus the University of Tamps at 5 p.m. Union will then play its final regular-season game, a very important GSC game to decide a spot in the tournament, Saturday, November 9 versus Montevallo. It will also be senior day for Union.
