HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Union University women's soccer team lost 1-0 in double-overtime Friday night to the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Union dropped to 2-9 overall and 1-7 in the Gulf South Conference. Alabama Huntsville improved to 5-8-1 on the season and 3-6 in league play.
The game was moved from the UAH campus to Merrimack Stadium, which has artificial turf, due to the heavy rains prior to and during the match.
The only goal of the match came with just one minute and 12 seconds left in the second overtime period. UAH's Laura Hasani scored the golden goal for the Chargers.
UAH outshot Union 17-8 in the match, however, the shots on goal were even at 5-5. Union had three shots in the first half, four in the second half, and one in the second overtime. UAH had eight, four, three, and two in its four periods of play.
Union's
Candace Haney led the Lady Bulldogs with two shots, both on goal. Six other players recorded one shot each for Union.
Rylee Iorio played the first half and the first overtime with no goals allowed and two saves.
Anna Venckus played in goal during the second half and second overtime, earning two saves.
Up next for Union will be another road GSC match at West Alabama, October 27 at 1 p.m.
