No. 15 Lee uses late goal to slip by Union women's soccer 1-0

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University women's soccer team fell 1-0 to No. 15 Lee University Friday night at Smith Soccer Complex. Union dropped to 2-7 overall and 1-5 in the Gulf South Conference. Lee improved to 9-2 on the season and 5-1 in league play. 

Since Lee joined the GSC in 2013, the two teams have played eight times, with Lee winning each contest. Five of the eight were decided with a 1-0 final. 

Lee out-shot Union 23-3 in the match, including 7-1 in the first half. However, Union and Lee were locked in a scoreless tie for over 87 minutes of play. Lee's Mallory Hayden scored at the 87:33 mark to give her team the lead and win. She was assisted by Riley Henry. 

Union goalies recorded nine saves in the match. Rylee Iorio played in goal for the first half, while Anna Venckus played the entire second half in goal. Jaya Wilson led Union with two shots, while Taylor Knight had the only other shot for the Lady Bulldogs. 

Up next for Union is a GSC home match October 20 at 1 p.m. versus Shorter University.
