NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Union University men's soccer team posted a 2-2, double-overtime tie at Trevecca Nazarene University Thursday night. It was the season opener for both teams.
After a couple of lightning delays held off the start of play, the teams wasted no time getting on the board. Both team scored in the seventh minute of play, with the home Trojans scoring first.
Felipe Firmino, assisted by
David Hurtado scored for Union just seconds later to tie the match. The score stayed 1-1 at the half.
Four minutes into the second half, Union's
William Valencia gave Union brief lead at 2-1. In the 56th minute, TNU tied the game for good with their final goal.
Both teams managed 15 shots in the game, while Union led 8-3 in shots on goal.
Euan Morton tallied one save in his 110 minutes in goal.
Up next for Union will be a neutral site game versus Florida Tech in Montgomery, Ala. Monday, September 4 at 4 p.m.
