MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Union University men's soccer team dropped a match 4-2 versus Florida Tech Monday afternoon at Auburn University Montgomery Stadium. The neutral site loss sent Union to 0-1-1 on the season, while Florida Tech stayed perfect at 3-0.
Union scored first with a goal from
AJ Morgado in the 32nd minute of play. Just two minutes later, Florida Tech tied the match 1-1 following a Union turnover and one-on-one opportunity with the keeper. In the 41st minute, Florida tech took the lead 2-1 with a second goal of the half. The Panthers led the match 2-1 at the break.
Union, playing as visitors on the scoreboard, tied the match 2-2 on a goal from
Cole Asfour in the 69th minute of play. He was assisted by
Bart Diepstraten.
But late in the match, Florida Tech got a pair of goals to put the match away. An assisted goal in the 79th minute served as the game-winner. A final goal in the 81st minute of play gave the Panthers the cushion needs to close out the match.
Florida Tech outshot Union 21-8 in the match, including 11-4 in the first half. Asfour and Morgado led Union with two shots each. The Panthers led Union 11-5 in fouls committed.
Union's
Casper Nyberg played all 90 minutes in net for Union, recording four saves.
Up next for Union will be the third of five straight road matches. The Bulldogs travel to McKendree University in Lebanon, Ill. September 9 at 2:30 p.m.
