SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Union University women's basketball team defeated Carson-Newman University 73-70 in the NCAA D2 Elite Eight Monday at the Sanford Pentagon. Seventh seeded Union improved to 32-3 on the season, while second seeded Carson-Newman ended their season at 32-3.
Union head coach Mark Campbell said, "I'm extremely proud of the effort on defense down the stretch for our team. We were able to get some key stops late and rebounds, which we had not gotten most of the game. Carson-Newman is the hardest team we've played to have to guard. They are very well coached and we knew they would have a rally in them. I'm just thankful to have another couple of days to coach this group of players."
