Union's Shumpert named D2CCA South Region Player of the Year

JACKSON, Tenn. - Union University's Chelsey Shumpert was voted the 2018 D2CCA South Region Player of the Year. The Division 2 Conference Commissioners Association sponsors this all-region team, which is voted on by the SIDs in the south region. Shumpert was also named first team all-region.

Shumpert averaging 24.8 points per game is tops in the GSC and has been top five in the country all season in scoring. Shumpert also led her team with 6.3 rebounds per game, while adding 3.9 assists and 2.3 steals per game. In the region finals win Monday night, Shumpert broke the GSC record for points in a season. Ironically, she passed former Union standout Amy Philamlee's old GSC record of 790 points in a season from 2014-15. Shumpert currently has 818 points this season, which is just 17 points shy of Union's single season record of 835 held by Stephanie Clark from 2004-05 when Union was NAIA.

Union travels next to Sioux Falls, South Dakota for the NCAA D2 Elite Eight. Seven-seed Union faces 2-seed Carson-Newman Monday, March 19 at 2:30 p.m. central time. Listen on 93.1 FM or online at www.uuathletics.com/live
