COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Union University softball lost a pair of games Saturday in the Southern Softball Showdown. Union fell 11-3 (6) to Lynn University then dropped the second game, 6-3 to Flagler College. Union is 0-2 to start the season.
In the first game, Union scored first with a run in the top of the first inning. However, a couple of errors led to a 5-run inning for Lynn in the bottom of the first. Union scored again in the second and the fifth, but it was not enough in the 11-3 loss. Union pounded out nine hits in the game, but committed three errors. Lynn had 11 hits with no errors.
Parker Davis took the loss, tossing three innings, giving up four earned runs with one strike out and one walk.
Gabby Morris hit a home run for the Lady Bulldogs, while
Peyton Mathis led with two hits.
In the second game, Union again scored first with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Morris' RBI double got the scoring started for Union. Flagler took the lead in the third with three runs, while Union tied the game in the bottom frame with a Morris home run. Flagler regained the lead in the fifth and added two insurance runs in the six to seal the win. Flagler had 14 hits and no errors, while Union had eight hits and two errors. Morris took the loss, allowing four earned runs in 5.2 innings of work with eight strikeouts and four walks.
Day two of the classic was rained out.
