Union baseball sweeps opening day double-header

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University baseball team posted a pair of victories in their opening day double-header versus Ouachita Baptist University Saturday afternoon. Union won the first game 7-4 and the second game 5-2. 

In the first game, JR Miller (1-0) tossed six innings and no earned runs in the win. He allowed just four hits, two unearned runs, had 10 strikeouts and just two walks. Brady Cook tossed two-thirds of an inning, allowing two runs on four hits with three strikeouts. Marty Coursey (1) struck out the side in a perfect ninth for the save. Union got 10 hits in the game from eight hitters. Nolen Milton and Chase Diggs each led with two hits, while Caleb DeMarigny led with two RBI. Union's big inning came in the fifth with six runs, including five straight at-bats with an RBI. 

Game two had the Bulldogs scoring twice in the first inning. A pair of RBI doubles from Milton and Zane Phillips got the scoring started. Union added three runs in the fourth with RBI hits singles from Charlie Ellis and Josh Bozoian. Scott Shearer (1-0) went the distance for Union, tossing seven innings. He allowed just three hits and two runs with four walks and a strikeout. Milton led Union with three hits, while four different players recorded an RBI. 

Union goes for the sweep Feb. 4 at 1 p.m.
