MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Union University volleyball team lost at the University of Montevallo 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-22) Saturday afternoon. Union dropped to 6-24 on the season and 2-11 in the Gulf South Conference. Montevallo improved to 20-7 overall and 11-3 in league play.
Union led 3-1 early in the first set, and the teams played close for the first half of the set. Union led for the final time at 9-8. UM posted four straight points to regain the lead for good and win 25-19.
Montevallo scored the first three points and led 5-1 out of the gates in set two. Union stormed back and led 10-9. The set was tied three times before the Falcons took the lead for good 14-13. UM extended its lead to 25-17 final.
In the third set, Union scored first, but then quickly trailed 6-2. After trailing by as many as four points a couple times, Union rallied back to lead 15-14 and again 16-15. UM pulled ahead again by as many as three points twice. Union rallied to trail just 23-22 late, but the Falcons scored the final two to claim the set, 25-22.
Union was led by Megan Delaney with 10 kills, while
Christa Karns added nine kills.
Rebecca Sexton led with 17 assists and
Claressa Kohler added 10 assists. Delaney led with 17 digs, while
Delaney Peterson and Karns led with four blocks. Four Union players recorded on aces each.
Up next for Union will be the final road match of the season, Tuesday, October 30 at Christian Brothers.
