JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University women's soccer team lost to the University of Montevallo 4-0 Saturday afternoon in the season's final match. Union ended the year 0-14-1 on the season and 0-12-1 in the Gulf South Conference. Montevallo improved to 8-6-3 overall and 7-5-1 in league play.
Montevallo scored the game winner in the 21st minute when Allye Darnell got past the goalie and scored an empty netter. That score held at the half, 1-0. UM out shot Union 13-5 in the first half.
In the second half, Montevello added a second goal just two minute into the half on a shot from Medhali Hernandez. The in the 69th and 71st minutes, the Falcons added two more quick scores from Espy Sanchez to set the final at 4-0. Kira Bochard, Allye Darnell and Samara Lino each recorded assists for Montevallo.
In the match, Montevallo out shot Union 27-8, including 14-4 in shots on goal. The Falcons also led 4-2 in corner kicks. Union led 14-3 in fouls.
Senior
Madison Studstill led Union with three shots and fellow senior Hannah Hillburn added a shot.
Anna Venckus recorded 10 saves in her 90 minutes in goal.
Union honored four seniors after the game including Studstill, Hillburn,
Hannah Hewett, and
Georgia Hopkins.
