ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Union University men's soccer team posted a 2-1 victory at Ouachita Baptist University. It was the second straight win for the Bulldogs. Union improved to 3-8-3 overall, while Ouachita Baptist dropped to 5-8-1.
After a slow start this season, Union is 3-3-2 in its last eight matches.
The first half was evenly played with each team getting nine shots, none of which found the back of the net.
Union scored the match's first goal when
Felipe Firmino got his fourth goal of the year in the 59th minute of play. Just three minute later, OBU tied the match on a goal from Joey Zerbo.
Then, capping an 11 minute stretch in which all three goals in the match where scored, Union's
James Jackson scored his first career goal to put Union up 2-1 in the 70th minute. Firmino recorded the assist on the game winner.
Union was led by Jackson with nine shots in the match, five on goal.
Gavin Scott,
AJ Morgado, and
John Crawford added three shots apiece.
Casper Nyberg spent all 90 minutes in goal, recording one save.
Union dominated the shots in the second half, 13-2, to finished with the 22-11 match advantage. Union led 12-2 in shots on goal. Ouachita Baptist led Union 4-3 in corner kicks, led in fouls, 7-3, and led in saves 10-1.
Up next for Union will be a pair of road Gulf South Conference matches to close out the regular season. Union plays at Auburn Montgomery Thursday, October 25 and then Montevallo, October 27.
