Box Score ROME, Ga. - The Union University women's soccer team tied the Shorter University Hawks in double overtime Friday night. Union is now 0-9-1 overall and 0-7-1 in Gulf South Conference play. The Hawks are now 3-9-1 on the season and 1-5-1 in conference play.
The first half was evenly played for the first 35 minutes. Shorter snapped the scoreless tie with their only goal of the match. In the 36th minute, Martins da Silva scored on an assist from Erica Hiller.
At halftime, Union's Anna Venckus had collected five saves on the seven of Shorter's shots.
Union's Anna Barkey scored the Lady Bulldog's lone goal of the match seventeen seconds into the second half, which broke a six-game scoreless streak for Union. This is Barkey's second goal of the season, and she now leads the team in goals scored.
The remaining 44 minutes of regulation and 20 minutes of overtime yielded no goals for either team.
Union was led by Barkey with one goal and four shots. Venckus had seven saves on the night, and the Lady Bulldogs outshot the Hawks 13-12, holding the Hawks to only five shots in the second half and extra time.
Shorter was led by Martins da Silva with one goal and five shots. Sydney Durham collected 10 saves for the Hawks.
