Union volleyball wins first two at Emmanuel Classic

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The Union University volleyball team won their first two matches of the weekend at the Emmanuel College Classic. Union defeated Texas A&M International University 3-0 (25-15, 26-24, 25-20) and Emmanuel College 3-1 (25-19, 28-26, 30-28, 25-20) Friday night. Union is now 5-1 on the year. 

In the first game against Texas A&M International University, Union opened the game with a kill by Christa Karns. The Lady Bulldogs and the Dustdevils went back and forth for three sets, but Union finally took over the first set. The Dustdevils scored first in the second set, but was answered quickly by the Lady Bulldogs. Union and the Dustdevils went back and forth again until TAMIU went on a 3-0 run causing Union to take a time out. The Lady Bulldogs scored twice out of the timeout and then TAMIU went on a 5-0 run again making the score 16-8. After a couple of equal rallies, Union went on a 4-0 run causing TAMIU to take a timeout. Union scored four straight out of the time out, Kristen Goggin had two aces in those four points tying the game 17-17. Union scored last six points of the second set winning 26-24.Union controlled most of the third set scoring two right from the beginning. TAMIU went on one 4-0 run, but Union closed out the game 25-20.

Union's second game against Emmanuel College started with a 25-19 win on their first set. In their second set, Emmanuel College scored first and held on to that lead for most of the game, winning set two on an error by Union for their final point. The Lady Bulldogs scored the first two points in the third set, but the Lady Lions fought to the end having multiple 4-0 runs. Union beat the Lady Lions in the third set, 30-28. Going into the fourth set, the Lady Bulldogs scored first, but again traded points with Emmanuel College until the end, winning 25-20. 

The Lady Bulldogs continue play at the Emmanuel College Tournament Saturday. The Lady Bulldogs will face Clark Atlanta University at 1:00 p.m. and Southern Wesleyan University at 3:30 p.m.
