Union women's soccer falls to West Georgia

CARROLLTON, Ga.- The Union University women's soccer team was defeated 1-0 at West Georgia in their first Gulf South Conference game of the season Friday night. 

The two teams played evenly during the first half. The Wolves put pressure on Union with 10 shots, while Union recorded five shots. At the end of the first half, the score was 0-0.

The competitive play continued late into the second half, but in the 74th minute, West Georgia's Nikki Conte scored off of a cross from Rachel Lane. 

In the last ten minutes of the game, the Bulldogs attempted five shots, but they were not successful. 

Victoria Lucido led Union with three shots, one on goal, while nine other Bulldogs recorded at least one shot. West Georgia's Madison Cobb was their top shooter with five shots, four on goal. 

Union was out shot by the Wolves 19-14 in the game. Union's keeper, Kristen Francis, recorded 11 saves on the match, allowing one goal, and West Georgia's Jackie Donaldson had six saves. 

Union will continue Gulf South Conference play at University of North Alabama, Sunday, September 10 at 1:00 p.m.
