Union men's soccer defeated by Southern Indiana

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University men's soccer team was defeated 4-2 by the University of Southern Indiana in their Sunday afternoon game at home. Union dropped to 0-2 on the season. Southern Indiana, who is receiving votes at No. 29 in the latest Divison II National Coaches' Poll, got the win in their season opener. 

Southern Indiana scored first off an own goal kick by Union's defense in the seventh minute of play.

Six minutes later the Screaming Eagles scored again with a shot by Justin Raines assisted by Drew Albert and Tyler Paradis.

In the 27th minute, Southern Indiana's Sean Rickey finished a goal assisted by Adam Newman, making the score 3-0.

Union scored their first goal of the match in the 43rd minute with a shot from William Valencia.

The two teams went into the half with a score of 3-1 in favor of the visitors.

With just under 20 minutes left in the game, Justin Brooks scored the Screaming Eagles final goal with an assist by Drew Albert.

In the 80th minute, the Bulldogs earned a penalty kick, and Andre Silva capitalized on the chance.

The Screaming Eagles out shot the Bulldogs 16-14, and Union's Casper Nyberg recorded five saves.

Union's next match will be at Oakland City University September 9 at 2 p.m.
