Men's soccer falls to Shorter in double overtime, 2-1

JACKSON, Tenn.- Union University men's soccer was defeated 2-1 by Shorter in double overtime on Friday night at Smith Memorial Soccer Complex. Union dropped to 0-5 on the season and 0-2 in the Gulf South Conference. Shorter improved to 2-5 on the season and 2-1 in conference play. 

Union went up twelve minutes into the game when Paul Langford scored inside the top of the box. 

The teams played evenly until two minutes left in the first half when Hassane Traore scored for the Hawks, assisted by Felix Guijosa. 

The first half ended 1-1. In the first half, Union held Shorter to only two shots while the Bulldogs recorded eight shots.

The Bulldogs and the Hawks continued even play throughout the second half, and at the end of regulation, the score was 1-1. 

In the first overtime period, Union took three shots, and Shorter recorded only one. Neither team found the back of the net, sending the teams into the second overtime period. 

Then in the 106th minute, Felix Guijosa scored for the Hawks assisted by Justin Macias. 

The Bulldogs out shot the Hawks 22-13 during the match. Union's Casper Nyberg recorded four saves, and Shorter's Sean Carpenter had three saves. 

Union's next game will be against Lee University on September 24 at 4:15 p.m.
