Box Score 4 PETERSBURG, Va. - The Union University volleyball team opened the season with three wins in four matches at the Virginia State University Classic. The 3-1 start for Union is the best start since a 15-0 start in 2009.
In the first match of the season at host Virginia State, Union rallied from a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 (16-25, 21-25, 25-19, 25-13, 25-23). The next three matches were all 3-set matches with Union winning the next two. Union defeated the University of Virginia-Wise 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-19). Union then knocked off Alderson Broaddus University 3-0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-22). The win over ABU marked the 100th win for Union head coach
Darrin McClure. Union took their first loss of the season in the final match of the classic in a 3-0 (25-23, 25-12, 25-19) loss to Seton Hill University.
Up next for Union will be another road classic, this time at Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Ga. September 8-9. Union will play Texas A&M International University and Emmanuel Friday, followed by Clark Atlanta University and Southern Wesleyan University Saturday.
