JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University men's soccer team was defeated 2-1 by University of West Alabama in the season opener on Friday night.
West Alabama struck first with a goal by Jean-Baptiste Meyniel early in the first half. Union then earned a penalty kick one minute later with
Robel Dent capitalizing on the chance.
The two teams went into the half tied at 1-1 and continued the close play deep into the second half
In the 88
th minute, West Alabama's Keegan McQueen scored on a close shot assisted by Jean-Baptiste Meyniel.
The Tigers out shot the Bulldogs 19-11 in the match, but Union's
Casper Nyberg recorded five saves.
Union will continue their opening home stand Sunday afternoon against Southern Indiana at 4:15 p.m.
