CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Union University baseball dropped its final game of the 2017 season and Gulf South Conference Tournament Monday afternoon 10-5 to the University of Alabama in Huntsville. The season saw the Bulldogs surpass the 30 win mark for the first time since moving to NCAA Division II and their first GSc Tournament appearance.

WHAT HAPPENED
- It was Union who got on board first in the contest, with a three run home to deep left center in the top of the first inning from Zach Wylie. David Robins and Nolen Milton came on the longball giving Union the quick 3-0 lead.
- The Chargers wasted no time in fighting back about the quick Union lead with an offensive outburst of their own in the bottom half of the first frame. UAH rattled off five hits to combine with two Union errors that resulted in total of seven runs for the eighth seeded Chargers.
- The game returned to a normal pace following the ten run first inning, however it was Alabama Huntsville who added to their total scoring twice in the bottom of the third inning on a two run double. The home team then added another run on an RBI single through the left side to stretch their lead to 10-3.
- The Bulldogs mounted an attempt at a comeback in the top of the ninth inning pushing across two runs with a solo homer from Tyler Mauzy and an RBI single from Hayden Lewis to close the gap to 10-5, but could not complete the comeback.
POSTGAME STATS
- Marty Coursey started the game on the bump for Union, but struggled early giving way to Skyler Harrison with two outs in the bottom of the first. Harrison limited the damage in his stint on the mound tossing 6.1 innings allowing just three runs while striking out seven batters. Joe Hudson tossed the final inning of work for the Bulldogs allowing a hit and walk but struck out two batters.
- Union amassed eight hits in the game with Tyler Mauzy 3-for-4 with the solo homer in the final inning. Zach Wylie's three run homer also contributed to the Union offense.
