Tourney bound Bulldog baseball takes care of UAH 13-0

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Union University baseball team posted a 13-0 victory in the final game of the 3-game series at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Union improved 29-16 overall and 17-12 in the Gulf South Conference. Alabama Huntsville dropped to 21-23 overall and 15-16 in league play.

After a scoreless first inning, Union exploded for six runs in the top of the second inning. Dylan Moore's double drove in Hayden Lewis to get things started. David Robins followed with a RBI single. Nolen Milton hit his first of three doubles in the game, getting two RBI. Zach Phillips capped of the 6-run frame with a RBI single.

The score stayed 6-0 until Union added four runs in the top of the fifth inning. A sacrifice fly from Tyler Mauzy, a RBI double from Milton and a 2-RBI triple from Phillips put Union up 10-0. Union scored in each of the last three innings of the run-rule shortened game in seven innings. Two runs in the sixth came with RBI hits from Mauzy and Milton. Moore capped off the scoring with a solo home run in the seventh.

In addition to the offensive explosion, Union senior starter Teddy Christie (8-3) got his first win in exactly one month. His last win came March 24 in a 6-2 win over West Alabama. Christie tossed all seven innings in this win over UAH, allowing no runs on four hits with four strikeouts and just one walk. It was just the third shutout for Union this season and first of the year for Christie.

UAH had four players get one hit each in the game. Taylor Clemons (2-3) took the loss in the start, going 1.2 innings with six runs on five hits with three walks and one strikeout. Three relief pitchers tossed at least one inning each to close out the game.

Up next for Union will be a week of home games to close out the regular season. First, Union welcomes D1 and West Tennessee foe UT Martin Tuesday, April 25 at 6 p.m. to Fesmire Field. Union then host West Georgia in the final GSC series of the year, Saturday and Sunday, April 29-30. Double-header is Saturday at 4 p.m. with Sundays' game at 2 p.m.
