JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University baseball team split their doubleheader against the University of West Florida on Saturday taking the first game 6-0 while falling in game two 7-1.

Game One
WHAT HAPPENED
- Union put up two early runs in the bottom of the second inning when Zach Wylie ripped an RBI single to centerfield that drove home Zach Phillips and Dylan Moore.
- The Bulldogs added to their lead in the seventh when Austin Orr drove in two more runs on another RBI single up the middle, this time scoring Ryne Roper and Hayden Lewis.
- Union pushed across two more runs in the inning with Wylie coming in to score on an error by the Argo centerfielder and Orr scoring on an RBI single from Nolen Milton to set the final score at 6-0.
POSTGAME STATS
- JR Miller earned his fifth win of the season throwing eight shutout innings giving up only three hits and a walk while striking out six batters. The outing is tied for the longest of his career which came just three weekends ago at Valdosta State.
- Marty Coursey tossed the final frame of the shutout win giving up just a hit and a walk to seal the win for the Bulldogs.
- Union managed just five hits in the first game of the series with five coming from different players in the Bulldog lineup. Hayden Lewis recorded the only extra basehit of the game for Union with a double in the bottom of the seventh.
Game Two
WHAT HAPPENED
- West Florida jumped on the board first in the second game of the double header scoring in each of the first two innings for a quick 2-0 lead.
- The Bulldogs was able to push a run across in the bottom of the first when David Robins led the inning off with a double to left center and scored on a wild pitch.
- The Argos padded their lead in the fourth capitalizing on a Union error that scored one runner and extended the inning letting two more unearned runs cross the plate to make the lead 5-1.
- UWF continued to add to their lead in the sixth and seventh innings to make the lead 7-1.
- The Bulldogs got two runners aboard to start the bottom of the seventh,but the next three batters went down in order forcing Union to split the first day of the series.
POSTGAME STATS
- Teddy Christie started the game for Union and earned just his second loss of the season and mover to 7-2 this year after going 3.2 innings giving up four runs. Austin Kitterman came into the game in relief going 1.0 innings before being replaced by Joe Hudson in the top of the fifth. Tommy Weiler finished the game recording the final three outs in the seventh.
- David Robins finished the game 2-for-3 scoring Union's only run and recording the only extra base hit for the home team.
