JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University men's basketball team fell to No. 23 Alabama Huntsville Saturday afternoon in the regular season finale, 79-74. Union has been selected as the No. 7 seed in the Gulf South Conference tournament and will travel to UAH on Tuesday, February 28
th, for the first round game.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Union was able to jump up on the Chargers with Charlie Wilson scoring the first points of the game on a mid-range jumper, the Bulldogs held on to that lead for the first five minutes of the game until UAH went ahead 11-10 with 15:05 left in the first half.
- Both teams traded the lead for the remainder of the half with neither team leading by more than five points for that stretch of the game. Alabama Huntsville was able to secure the lead going into the locker room, 43-38.
- Union struggled to score in the opening minutes of the second half not scoring a point until three and a half minutes had ticked off the clock. The layup from Ashanti Day that broke the Union drought sparked a Bulldog rally as they rattled off eight straight points to cut the UAH lead to just two, 48-46.
- The Chargers started pulling away towards the midpoint of the second half going up by as many as 11 points with 6:11 left in the game, but the Bulldogs rallied back once again going on an 11-3 run over four and a half minutes to only trail by three points with just under 30 seconds remaining in the game.
- UAH was able to stave off the Union comeback with help from free throws in the final seconds of the contest to win the regular season finale 79-74.
STAT OF THE GAME
Union did not score a single point for a stretch of almost seven minutes of the game, from 3:29 in the first half until 16:32 in the second half.
TEAM STATS
- The Bulldogs shot 41 percent from the field in the contest while going 8-for-24 from behind the arc. Union knocked down 16-of019 free throws, good for 84 percent.
- The managed to shoot exactly 50 percent from the field in the contest going 28-for-56 while hitting 11 threes and shooting 85 percent from the charity stripe.
- Union was able to outrebound the Chargers 34-33 in the game but turned the ball over eight times, compared the Alabama Huntsville's five times.
PLAYER STATS
- Freshman Tray Boyd led the team for the second straight game, and five of the last seven games, with 21 points, including four buckets from behind the arc.
- Charlie Wilson added 17 points to the Union total with eight rebounds, while KC Goodwin added 14 with Ashanti Day scoring 12.
- UAH was led by Brandon Roberts who scored 19 points while three others contributed double figues.

Union will take on the Chargers again in the first round of the Gulf South Conference tournament on Tuesday, February 28
th, at 7:00 p.m. The Bulldogs will look to advance to the semifinals of the post season tournament for the third straight year.
