JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University men's basketball team defeated Williams Baptist 107-59 Saturday afternoon at Fred DeLay Gymnasium. The Bulldogs improved to 5-4 on the season.
The Eagles and the Bulldogs went back and forth early in the first half. Williams Baptist's Devante Carlina started the game with 3-pointer, followed by a dunk form Union's
Pedro Da Silva. After being tied up 8-8, Union went on an eight point run to bring the score to 16-8. Marquez Chew put the Bulldogs run to halt with a layup, but Union's
KC Goodwin responded with a shot from long range.
Williams Baptist closed the gap with ten minutes left in the half with a 5-0 run, making the score 20-26.
Nick Velasquez stopped the Eagles' run with a shot 3-pointer. With seven minutes left in the half, Da Silva went on a 9-0 run by himself to extend Union's lead to 21 points. Union led 53-30 at the half.
Da Silva scored Union's first points of the second half on a 3-point play. Union extended their lead to as many as 50 points late in the game (107-57) before cruising to the 107-62 win.
Union was led by Da Silva with a career high 32 points. He added 13 rebounds to record his fifth straight double-double on the season.
Todd Barnes had a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Velasquez added 15 points, shooting 45 percent from three (5-11), five assists and one steal. Goodwin had 12 points, shooting a perfect 4-of-4 from long range.
Alex Keel flirted with a triple-double with 10 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds. Union shot 59 percent from the field, 44 percent (14-32) from long range, and 70 percent (7-10) from the free throw line.
Williams Baptist was led by Anthony with 14 points. D'angelo Griffin added 13 points, while Shackeel Butters finished with 12 points and a team-high six rebounds. The Eagles shot 35 percent from the field, 28 percent (5-18) from 3-point range, and 75 percent (9-12) from the free throw line.
