Union volleyball defeated by UNA

Jackson, TENN.- The Union University volleyball team was defeated 3-1 (25-11, 23-25, 25-20, 25-12) by the University of North Alabama on Saturday afternoon. Union drops to 13-16 overall and 3-11 in the Gulf South Conference. UNA improved to 24-6 overall and 12-2 in conference. 

In the first set, Union and UNA played close until the Lions went on a 7-0 run to extend their lead to 17-7. The Bulldogs could not gain back control of the set. A kill by UNA's Christina Ellwanger ended the set with a score of 25-12. 

In the second set UNA scored the first two points, and Union responded with two of their own. It went back and forth, until UNA went on a 5-0 run and taking the lead. Union took back the lead at 15-16 with a block by Abbie Rahn and Kristen Bukowsky. The two teams swapped points until the end, when Union scored the last three points, winning the set. 

In the third set the Lions and the Bulldogs went back and forth until, Union looked like they were going to take a run with three points, but UNA responded with a 5-0 run, tying the Bulldogs 9-9. The two teams continued to battle through the set, until Union went on a 4-0 run tying the score back up, 19-19. The Lions responded with a 4-0 run. Union stopped the run at 24-20, but the Lions scored the final point of the set with a kill by UNA's Jessica Austin. 

In the last set, Union stuck with UNA, but they could not keep their lead. The Lions went on a 7- 0 lead making the score 17-7. Union responded with two straight points, but they could not come back. The final score of the match was 25-12.

Union was lead by Clare Taylor with eleven kills, while Abbie Rahn had 10 kills. Christa Karns led with five blocks, and Bre Carton added 28 assists. Taylor Chiaro collected 18 digs. 

UNA was led by Lexie Bradley with twenty-six kills, while Jessica Austin had fourteen kills. Jessica Austin led with five blocks, and Jayden Davila McClary added fifty-three assists. Ashtyn Kapovich led with seventeen digs.

Union's last home game of the season will be, Tuesday, November 7 at 6 p.m. against Christian Brothers University.
