Union women's soccer ends season with 2-1 loss at CBU

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Union University women's soccer team lost their season finale Thursday night 2-1 at Christian Brothers University. Union ended their season 4-11 overall and 4-10 in the Gulf South Conference. Christian Brothers improved to 10-6-1 on the season and 8-5-1 in league play. CBU will advance to next week's GSC Tournament, while Union missed out on a second straight tourney appearance with a 12th place finish.

Union scored first when senior Olivia Schmitke scored in the 15th minute of play, assisted by Madison Studstill. Christian Brothers edged Union 7-5 in first half shots but Union held the 1-0 lead at the break. 

In the second half, the Lady Bucs outshot Union 10-5. After several near misses and a few times hitting the post, CBU tied the match in the 69th minutes on a goal form Sidnead Tierney after she controlled a misplayed ball in the box from Union's defense. 

Then, just as the match looked to be heading to overtime, Christian Brothers took their first lead of the match in the 88th minute on a second goal from Tierney, assisted by Bailey Tadlock. Union failed to get the equalizer in the limited time left. 

CBU outshot Union 17-10 in the match, including 10-5 in shots on goal. 

Kristen Francis had seven saves in the loss, while Riley Chafin had four saves in the win. 

Kaylyn Burroughs and Tiffany Linser led with two shots each. Tadlock led CBU with six shots.
