FLORENCE, Ala. - The Union University volleyball team was swept by the University of North Alabama 3-0 (25-20, 25-13, 25-13) Friday night.
The Lady Bulldogs are now 12-13 overall and 2-8 in the Gulf South Conference. North Alabama improved to 19-6 overall and 7-2 in conference play.
Union scored the first point of set one, but then fell behind quickly as UNA scored four straight points. A kill by
Katie O'Malley broke up the run, but UNA proceeded with another 6-0 run, making the score 10-2. Union gained some momentum and after a few back and forth plays, Union was able to make a 0-5 run, catching up to the Lady Lions, 10-12. The teams battled to 21-20 when UNA put the game away scoring four straight points, 25-20.
In the second set, UNA scored the first two points, but Union was able to keep up, 2-3. After swapping points, UNA scored six straight points. Union was able to score 11 more times in the set, but the Lady Lions won the set 25-13.
Union led the third set for the first time in the game early, 2-3. UNA then scored five points but, Union responded with their own 0-3 run, setting the score at 7-6. After some back and forth, the Lady Lions went on a 7-0 run, putting the game away 25-13.
Leaders for Union were
Katie O'Malley with eight kills and
Bre Carlton with 15 assists and six digs.
Anna Claire Winchester had six digs.
Up next for Union is the University of Alabama Huntsville on Saturday, October 21 at 2 p.m.
