CLINTON, Miss. - The Union men's soccer team beat No. 16 Mississippi College 3-0 Sunday, October 1st. This is Union's second conference win giving them a record of 2-6 overall and 2-3 in the Gulf South Conference. Mississippi College received their first loss of the season, they are now 8-1-1 overall and 5-1 in conference play.
"It was great to get two road conference wins in a row. It was the first time in program history to earn two conference wins in a row since joining NCAA," said Coach
Steven Cox. "The guys have been working extremely hard, and we have been very close. It was great to see the guys defend well and get two clean sheets. We need to make sure that we recover and start to prepare for next weekend. We still have a lot of soccer to play. "
Union's first goal was by
AJ Morgado assisted by
Andre Silva and
William Valencia in the 16th minute. The Bulldogs scored again in the 34th minute by
William Valencia, assisted by
Andre Silva.
The score at half was 2-0. Mississippi College out shot Union 9-5 in the first half.
In the 81st minute, Union's
Robel Dent scored the last goal of the game assisted by
AJ Morgado.
Mississippi College out shot the Bulldogs 21-7.
Casper Nyberg had six saves for Union, and Mississippi College's Humberto Peleaz collected one save.
Up next for Union is a pair of home conference games, University of Montevallo October 6 at 7:15 and Auburn University at Montgomery at 4:15.
