HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Union University women's basketball team fell 57-56 at the University of Alabama in Huntsville Saturday afternoon. It was the first win for UAH over Union in 12 attempts. It was also the first league win of the year for the Lady Chargers. Union remains winless on the road in GSC play this season.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Union scored first just eight seconds into the game on a layup from Jada Perkins. After UAH scored five straight, Union led again 6-5 with 4:42 left in the first quarter. The rest of the quarter belonged to UAH, closing the quarter with a 17-9 lead.
- UAH continue to control the game, taking a 34-22 lead into the locker room.
- Union scored the first five points of the third quarter, including a 3-pointer from Astrid Huttemann. Huttemann returns for her final semester of play after spending three years (2011-14) as a guard for the Lady Bulldogs. Midway through the quarter, Union posted a 12-2 run to cut their deficit to just one point, 45-44 with 31 seconds left in the quarter.
- UAH stopped the Union rally with and 8-0 run that filtered over into the fourth quarter. Union answered with an 8-0 run of their own to again pull to within one points, 53-52 with 3:44 left in the game. After a free throw from UAH, Union scored four straight, including a layup from Bria Gaines to give Union the 56-54 lead with 30 seconds left. UAH scored a basket with 12 seconds left to tie the game 56-56. Union missed on a game winning shot, then missed an offensive put back and fouled UAH with two seconds left. The Lady Chargers hit one-of-two free throws with two seconds left to earn the win.
STAT OF THE GAME
Union made just two 3-pointers in the game (2-13). It was the second time this season for Union to hit their season low of two 3-pointers (loss at Delta State).
TEAM STATS
- Union shot 32 percent from the field, 15 percent (2-13) from long range and 70 percent (14-20) from the free throw line.
- UAH shot 40 percent from the field, 35 percent (6-17) from 3-point range and 78 percent (7-9) from the charity stripe.
- UAH out rebounded Union 41-36. Union had just eight turnovers to 15 from UAH.
PLAYER STATS
- Union had four players in double figures, led by Gaines with 14 points. Jada Smith and Tiffany Rechis added 11 points, while Perkins scored 10 points and led with eight rebounds and four assists.
- UAH was led by Speegle with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Johnson added 11 points, while Elder recorded a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
