HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Union University men's basketball team lost 111-109 in overtime Saturday afternoon at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. This marks the third overtime have versus UAH in the past four meetings. UAH has won all three of the overtime games, while Union only win versus UAH came at the end of last season when the Chargers where ranked No. 23.

WHAT HAPPENED

• UAH scored first on a dunk from Seab Webster, but Union answered with a 3-pointer from Tray Boyd. Union hit 12 3-pointers in the first half. The teams went back and forth with the game being tied 22-22 with 11:35 left in the half. Union then began to build their lead with hot shooting. Union closed out the half on a 14-3 run to lead 55-40 at the half.
• In the second half, Union continued to add to the lead, going up by as many as 19 points, 75-56, with 12:10 left. Union led by 16 points, 87-71, with 6:44 left and seemed to have the game in control.
• However, UAH went on a 28-9 run capped layup from Website with four seconds left to tie the game at 99-99.
• In overtime, Union regain control by leading 108-102 after a 7-0 run with 2:06 left in overtime. UAH answered with a 3-pointer and outscored Union 9-1 in the final two minutes to take the win.
• Union led 109-108 in the final minute but could not put the game away. A 3-pointer from Kip Owens with 11 seconds left gave UAH the 111-109 win.

 
STAT OF THE GAME
Union shot 56 percent from the field and 57 percent from long range (20-35). However, Union hit only 15-of-24 free throws, including 1-of-4 in the final minute and a half of overtime. Union also had 17 turnovers in the loss.

TEAM STATS

• Union shot 56 percent from the field, 57 percent (20-35) and 63 percent (15-24) from the free throw line.
• UAH shot 48 percent from the field, 50 percent (15-30) from long range and 88 percent (22-25) from the free throw line.
• Union out rebounded UAH 43-34, but lost the turnover battle with 17 turnovers to just seven from UAH.

 
PLAYER STATS

• Union had six players in double figures led by Ashanti Day with 22 points. Boyd and Charlie Wilson added 17 points each, while Jarad Scott and Nick Velasquez scored 16 points each. Bennett Fuzak added 10 points.
• UAH was led by Webster with 38 points. Roberts had 17, Ward scored 15 and Saxton had 14 points.
