ROME, Ga. – The Union University women's basketball team lost 62-58 Saturday afternoon at Shorter University. Union finally got their first road win in GSC play this season Thursday evening at Lee. However, the Lady Bulldogs could not keep the momentum going, falling to 1-7 in GSC road games this year.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Union scored first on a put back from Bria Gaines, but Shorter slowed took control early in a low scoring first quarter, 13-7.
- Union started the second quarter on fire with a 7-0 run capped by a 3-pointer from Chelsea Bodiford to take a brief 14-13 lead. Shorter then heated up and dominated the rest of the quarter, outscoring Union 20-8 over the final eight minutes of the half.
- Union started the third quarter with a 6-0 run to regain momentum. Union outscored Shorter 20-10 in the third quarter, pulling to within one point, 43-42 by the end of the quarter.
- However, Shorter answered Union with the first basket of the fourth quarter to slow the Lady Bulldog momentum. Union eventually tied the game at 49-49 and again 51-51 with 6:20 left in the game. Shorter built a cushion thanks to an 8-0 run to lead 59-51 with 4:53 left to play. Gaines and Bodiford scored the next seven points for Union, including another 3-pointer from Bodiford to get Union as close at 61-58 with 1:07 left in the game. Both teams misfired on back-to-back possessions before Shorter closed out the win with a late free throw.

Bria Gaines posted her fourth straight double-double for Union with 30 points and 16 rebounds. She was 13-of-15 from the field. She has averaged 24 points and 12 rebounds over the last four games.
TEAM STATS
- Union shot 45 percent from the field, 13 percent (2-16) from behind the arc and 62 percent (8-13) from the free throw line.
- Shorter shot 40 percent from the field, 21 percent from long range and 71 percent (17-24) from the free throw line.
- Shorter edged Union 35-34 on the glass with Union committed 14 turnovers to just nine for Shorter.
- Gaines was 13-of-15 from the field for Union. The rest of the team was just 11-for 38 (29%).
PLAYER STATS
- Union was led by Gaines with 30 points and 16 rebounds. It marked the second time this season for Gaines to hit the 30-point mark (33 at West Georgia). Jada Smith scored 10 points.
- Shorter was led by Jackie Hudson with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Dominique Clune added 15 points.
