Union women fall 71-62 at West Alabama

WHAT HAPPENED
  • Union opened the game with a pair of free throws from Fredi Nielsen, but quickly fell behind 8-2. West Alabama maintained a small lead and held an 18-12 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
  • Chelsea Bodiford opened the second quarter for Union with a 3-pointer, but UWA kept the lead for most of the quarter. Union rallied to tie the game 25-25 with 1:32 left in the half, but a bucket from Jenna Bradberry  with two seconds left gave the Tigers a 27-25 halftime lead.
  • West Alabama dominated the third quarter, outscoring Union 27-16. By the end of the quarter, UWA's lead was 13, 54-41.
  • West Alabama led by as many as 14 points early in the fourth quarter for their largest lead of the game. Union got as close as seven points, but fell 71-62 for the final.

STAT OF THE GAME
For the second straight game, Union's smallest player, 5-foot-5 Jada Perkins, led the Lady Bulldogs in rebounds. She had 12 at West Georgia and 10 at West Alabama.

TEAM STATS
  • Union shot 31 percent from the field, 21 percent (6-29) from long range and 74 percent (20-27) from the free throw line.
  • West Alabama shot 42 percent from the field 35 percent (6-17) from 3-point range and 63 percent (15-24) from the charity stripe.
  • Union out rebounded West Alabama 41-40, but had 13 turnovers to just seven from UWA.

PLAYER STATS
  • Union was led by Jada Smith with 18 points. Bria Gaines posted a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Bodiford added 12 points on four 3-pointers, while Perkins got 10 rebounds.
  • West Alabama was led by Chloe Culpepper with 14 points. Bradberry added 12, Ariel Wilson scored 11 and Kierra Groce added 10.
