JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University Lady Bulldog basketball team downed the Shorter University Lady Hawks, 65-56. The win broke up a two game losing streak for the Lady Bulldogs.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Union started the game on top, with a 4-0 lead. Shorter was able to break up the run, but the Lady Bulldogs were able to extend their lead scoring six points on three pointers from Astrid Huttemann and Tiffany Rechis. At the end of the first quarter, Union had the lead 16-7. Huttemann led the Lady Bulldogs with 9 points in the quarter, all coming from behind the arc.
- Shorter was able to hold Union scoreless for the first three minutes of the second quarter, but Huttemann broke the streak with another 3-pointer to get the lead, 19-9. Rechis added to the Lady Bulldog lead going back-to-back with Huttemann's three to lead, 22-9. Union's lead was shortened to eight points, 22-14, after a 5-0 run by Shorter, but the Lady Bulldogs responded with a 6-0 run to get their lead back to 14 points, 28-14. By the end of the second quarter the Lady Bulldogs had the lead, 30-16.
- At the half, Union shot 37 percent from the field and 40 percent (8-for-20) from 3-point range. Rechis led the Lady Bulldogs with 14 points followed by Huttemann with 12 points, combining for 26 of Union's 30 points in the game.
- The Lady Hawks opened up scoring in the third quarter to gain on Union, 31-19, but the Lady Bulldogs scored five straight to get their largest lead up to that point in the game by 17, 36-19. Shorter found some momentum late in the quarter going on an 8-0 run to get within eight of Union, 42-34. Union was able to get their lead back in the double-digits, 46-36, by the end of the third quarter.
- Huttemann added another 3-pointer for Union at the beginning of the fourth quarter to give the Lady Bulldogs a 49-36 lead. The Lady Hawks then went on a 7-0 run to cut the Union lead to 49-43, the closest they have been since early in the second quarter. Rechis broke up Shorter's momentum with a shot behind the arc which tied her season high of 18 points. With just under five minutes left to play in the fourth quarter, the Lady Hawks edged closer to Union scoring on a jumper and free throw to get within three of the Lady Bulldogs, 53-50. Union was able to handle Shorter's surge to get the victory, 65-56.
STAT OF THE GAME
Astrid Huttemann led the way for the Lady Bulldogs with 19 points while also reaching a new season high in points. Huttemann's career high is 26 points which she set against Alabama Huntsville on February 2, 2013.
TEAM STATS
- Union shot 38 percent from the field, 39 percent (11-for-28) from long range, and 75 percent (12-for-16) from the free throw line.
- Shorter shot 36 percent from short range, 26 percent (5-for-19) from behind the arc, and 50 percent (7-for-14) from the foul line.
- The Lady Bulldogs were able to hold the lead throughout the game, and their largest lead of the night was 17 points which was reached in the third quarter.
PLAYER STATS
- Union was led by Astrid Huttemann with 19 points and nine rebounds. Tiffany Rechis followed closely with 18 points which tied her season high.
- Shorter's Domonique Clune led the way with 18 points and Raven Fair helped the Lady Hawks with 17 points. Fair also had nine boards in the game tying Jackie Hudson's nine rebounds.
