Union soccer wins big at Delta State

CLEVELAND, Miss.- The Union University women's soccer team won big at Delta State Sunday afternoon 4-0 to move to 2-3-2 on the season and 2-1-1 in Gulf South Conference action.

The Lady Bulldogs put their first ball into the back of the net when Diana Barajas scored her first goal of the season off a pass from Austen DeLoach in the 41st minute for the 1-0 lead going into halftime.

The next three Union goals all happened within a ten minute span at the open of the second half. Kayleigh Patterson first scored in the 48th minute for her first goal of the season and then put another ball in just eight minutes later heading in a cross from Kelsey Wilkes to help the Lady Bulldogs go up 3-0 over Delta State.

The final goal of the match came less than a minute later when Hannah Hillburn scored on a shot off the side post that caught the net to move the score to 4-0. Kelsey Wilkes recorded her second assist of the match on the play.

The four goals for the Lady Bulldogs marks a season high and their most goals since beating Delta State last year by the same score. Union recorded 20 shots in the match and 12 shots on goal, their most so far this season.

Seven Lady Bulldogs have scored a goal so far this season, more than all of last year combined (5). Union still has nine games left in the season.
