JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University Lady Bulldog volleyball team dropped their first home match of the season to Christian Brothers University, 3-1. This was also the first Gulf South Conference match of the season for Union. The Lady Bulldogs dropped to 3-6 on the season and 0-1 in conference. The Bucs improved to 5-2 on the season and 1-1 in GSC play.
Union jumped ahead early in the first set 4-1. The Lady Bulldogs went on a 3-0 run later in the set to get ahead 8-4, but Christian Brother responded with a six point run that pushed the Bucs ahead 10-8. Union was able to come back with a 4-0 run to take back the lead 12-10. With the score tied 19-19, the Lady Bulldogs surged ahead with a five point run to make the score 24-19. CBU responded with two points, but Union put the set win away, 25-21, capped by a kill from
Deja Moorer.
Again, play was evenly matched in the second set. The Lady Bulldogs and Christian Brothers traded possessions pushing the set down to the wire. Union was up 23-22 at the end of the set, but the Bucs came back to win the set 25-23 to even the match score, 1-1
In the final two sets, CBU outlasted Union to get the third set win, 25-20, and the fourth set win, 25-14. In the match Christian Brothers out-killed the Lady Bulldogs 51-38 with a .212 kill percentage compared to Union's .159 kill percentage.
Audrey Cagle ended the night with 20 of the Lady Bulldogs' 59 digs. Moorer led Union with 13 kills, helped by
Hannah Huguley's 34 assists.
Union will be in action again Friday, September 16, as they take on Mississippi College at home starting at 7pm.
