JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University men's soccer team posted a 2-1 double overtime win over Oakland City (Ind.) University Saturday afternoon. Union improved to 1-3, while Oakland City dropped to 0-2.
Union got the golden goal just under five minutes into the second overtime from Cola Asfour. His shot into the from outside the box slid into the upper middle of the net for Union's first win of the season.
All of the rest of the scoring in the match came early in the first half. Oakland City scored first in the match on a goal from Jack Cookson, assisted by Ryan Blair, in the 20
th minute of play. Union answered back just seven minutes later with a match tying goal from
Kyle Yeoman.
Paul Langford assisted Yeoman.
Union outshot Oakland City 9-1 in the first half and 13-7 in the second half, but the score remained 1-1 at the end of regulation. Union outshot Oakland City 4-1 in the overtime periods.
Langford led Union with six shots, three on goal.
Rodrigo Zonta,
Lucas Lopes and
Andre Silva each added four shots.
Pedro Haniel played all 104-plus minutes with four saves for Union. Connor McGoldrick added eight saves in his work in net for Oakland City.
Up next for Union will be another non-conference home match, Tuesday, September 13 at 7 p.m. versus Kentucky Wesleyan.
