Volleyball falls on the road to VSU 3-1

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Union University volleyball team fell 3-1 (25-21, 25-20, 22-25, 25-13) to the Blazers of Valdosta State.

WHAT HAPPENED

·         Play was back and forth in the first set, but Union was able to take the lead 9-8 after a three point run. Valdosta started to pull away going on a 5-0 run to take the score to 16-13. The Blazers kept the lead after that to set the first set final, 25-21.

·         The Lady Bulldogs started on top in the second set 3-0. With the score tied 8-8 Union found some momentum scoring five straight points to take the lead 13-8, but later in the set Valdosta went on a 5-0 run of their own to take back the lead 19-15. VSU would hold the lead to win the second set 25-21.

·         With Valdosta leading the match 2-0, the Lady Bulldogs came into the third set with some fire. Union controlled the third set to lead the Blazers 23-14. VSU tried to make a comeback after going on a six point run, but the Lady Bulldogs were able to take the third set 25-22

·         Valdosta State came into the fourth set and dominated. VSU at one point led Union 22-9. The Lady Bulldogs were unable to find traction in the fourth set to fall 25-13. 

 

STAT OF THE GAME

·          Hannah Huguley tied her season high of 46 assists in the match.

 

POSTMATCH STATS

·         Katie O'Malley led Union with 12 kills, followed by Deja Moorer with 11. As a team, Union out-killed VSU 60-52. Hannah Huguley added 46 assists to her season totals to help the offense.

·         Defensively, Audrey Cagle led with 19 digs, and Christa Karns had four blocks in the match.

·         Susanna Peonia led VSU with 17 kills, while Natalia Campos had 21 digs for the Blazers

 

UP NEXT
Union will return home for their final matches of the regular season. The Lady Bulldogs will take on the University of West Alabama Thursday, November 10 at 7 pm. Union will then take on the University of West Georgia Friday, November 11 at 7 pm which will also be Senior Night for the Lady Bulldogs.
