West Florida evens season series with 3-0 over Union volleyball

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Union University volleyball team fell 3-0 (29-27, 25-15, 25-15) Friday night at the University of West Florida. Union had knocked off West Florida 3-1 at Union earlier this season when West Florida was ranked No. 21. The Argos remain atop the Gulf South standings with just over a week left in the season.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • The first set started with the teams going back and forth. Then with the set tied 7-7, West Florida posted eight straight points to take a 15-7 lead. However, Union battled back and after five straight points, the Lady Bulldogs had pulled to with in 19-18. Union was able to regain the lead with a 4-0 run to go up 22-21. Union led again 23-22, but could not put away the Argos. West Florida regained the lead. Union forced three more ties before UWF won 29-27.
  • Union led 5-3 in the second set, but a 10-2 run for West Florida put them in control for the 25-15 win.
  • Union never led in the third set, giving up runs of 4-0 and 6-0 to fall 25-15. 
STAT OF THE GAME
  •  West Florida hit .301 for the match, including a blistering .462 (14K/2E) in the second set.
POSTMATCH STATS
  • Deja Moorer had her streak of double figure kills snapped at four with nine kills versus UWF. She has recorded at least nine kills in seven straight matches, including double figures in five of those matches. She is just 44 kills shy of 1,000 for her career.
  • Hannah Huguley recorded 26 assists, Audrey Cagle led with two aces and 15 digs. Christa Karns led with two blocks.
  • Corisha Smith led all players with 11 kills.    
UP NEXT
Union plays their final road match of the season Saturday, November 5 at Valdosta State at noon central time. Union then comes home for their final two games of the season, Thursday, November 10 versus West Alabama and Friday versus West Georgia. Both at 7 p.m. and Friday's match versus West Georgia is senior night for the Lady Bulldogs.
