HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Union University men's basketball team stepped out of regular season play for one final exhibition game of the 2016-17 season. Union fell 60-44 at the University of Southern Mississippi Friday night at Reed Green Coliseum. The game counted as a regular season game for Southern Mississippi.

 WHAT HAPPENED

• Union never led in the game, but stayed close for the majority of the game. 
• Union trailed 27-20 at the half, and had the Golden Eagles within single digits again with just over five minutes left in the game. 
• A late flurry by USM extended their lead to a game-high 16 points. 
• Union failed to hit a field goal for the final 3:05 of the game. 
• Union is still playing without starting post player Charlie Wilson, who was injured in the season opening game for the Bulldogs. 

• Union hit just 24 percent of their 3-point shots, 7-of-29. It was the first game this year where the Bulldogs did not hit at least 10 3-pointers in a game.

• Union shot just 27 percent from the field, 24 percent from long range, but hit 82 percent (9-11) free throws.
• USM shot 42 percent from the field, 50 percent (8-16) from 3-point range and 63 percent (10-16) from the charity stripe. 
• In addition to the cold shooting for Union, both teams miss handled the ball a combined 36 times, 21 by Southern Mississippi.
• USM out rebounded Union 44-30, 10-5 on the offensive glass.  

• Union was led by Ashanti Day with 14 points. Jarad Scott posted a third straight double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds. 
• Nick Velasquez had nine points, going 3-of-4 from 3-point range for Union.
• Quinton Campbell led three USM players in double figures with 13 points. Quinton Davis led with 12 rebounds.
