Volleyball jumps back into win column with sweep of UWG

CARROLLTON, Ga. – The Union University Lady Bulldog volleyball jumped back in the win column Saturday after defeating the University of West Georgia 3-0 (25-15, 25-22, 25-18).

WHAT HAPPENED
  • Union jumped ahead 9-3 early in the first set, and would keep the West Georgia offense quiet getting the first set win, 25-15.
  • West Georgia scored the first two points of the second set, and after losing possession they would score two more points to take the lead 4-1.
  • Leading Union 10-8, West Georgia extended their lead with a 5-1 run to lead the Lady Bulldogs 15-9. Union was able to make a gradual comeback in second set, and found some momentum late scoring five straight points to take their first lead of the set, 22-19. The Lady Bulldogs would eventually get the second set win, 25-22.
  • Once Union gave the first point of the third set to West Georgia, the Lady Bulldogs led the rest of the way to get the third set win, 25-18.
  • Union ended the third set on a three point run to help them to the win.
  • The Lady Bulldogs out killed West Georgia 41-26 in the match.
 
STAT OF THE GAME
  • With Union down 19-17, the Lady Bulldogs pulled ahead 22-19 with 5-0 run, and would keep their lead to win the second set.
 
POSTMATCH STATS
  • Union took a tough loss to West Alabama to end their two game win streak, but Saturday's win put the Lady Bulldogs back in the win column.
  • Union swept UWG in both meeting last season, 3-0.
  • Suheily Colon-Rodriquez and Deja Moorer each posted nine kills in the match followed by McKenna Carter with eight. Hannah Huguley led with three aces and 29 assists. Colon-Rodriquez and Carter had three blocks each, while Audrey Cagle had 11 digs to help the defense.
  • West Georgia was led by Autumn Burnette with 7 kills helped by Madi Fleming with 20 assists. Two UWG player had three blocks each, while Tessa Watson led with nine digs.
