JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University volleyball team earned their second straight victory with a 3-1 (25-20, 26-24, 25-13) win over Lee University. Union improved to 6-10 on the season and 3-5 in the Gulf South Conference. Lee dropped to 5-8 overall and 2-6 in league play.
The win for Union over Lee was the second straight victory over the Lady Flames including a 3-0 win late in the year last year, also at Union.

Darrin McClure said, "I was really glad to see the girls respond after a big win. We talked practice yesterday that West Florida was one game, we played well and we won. Now we have to be more consistent. I was glad to see the girls respond tonight."
Lee opened the first set with two quick points, but Union responded with three in a row to take the lead. Union heled a slight lead until Lee regained the edge 10-9. Union scored three straight points and five of the next six to jump out to a 14-11 lead. Union never trailed again in the match. Union led by as many as five points over the remainder of the set including the 25-20 final.
In the second set, Union continued momentum, scoring the first two points. Union led by as many as four points a few times through the set, but Lee stayed close. Late in the set, back-to-back kills by the Lady Flames tied the set at 24-24. Union got a kill
Deja Moorer followed by a Lee hitting error to win the set 26-24.
The third set was all Union as the Lady Bulldogs rolled out four straight points and six of the first seven. A pair of kills from GSC Freshman of the Week
Katie O'Malley and a service ace from
Hannah Huguley capped off the fast start for Union. Union continue to extend their lead out to 17-7 and eventually, 25-13, their largest lead of the night.
Union was led by O'Malley with 14 kills, while
McKenna Carter added 11 kills, both hitting over .540 for the match. Huguley dished out 42 assists as she set up the Union attack for a .431 percentage. Moorer and
Audrey Cagle led with two aces, Cagle and Moorer added 13 and 12 digs respectively. Huguley and Carter led with three blocks each.
Carter said, "We were struggling for a while, but it was not an effort thing, it was just that everything was not clicking. Now things are clicking and that is a huge accomplishment for us and exciting."
Lee was led by Silvia Sartori and Catherine Conley with seven kills, Sadie Johnson with 15 assists and two aces, Sartori with 13 digs and one block.
Union begins a nine match swing away from home starting with GSC road game at West Alabama October 7 and West Georgia October 8.
