North Alabama tops Union volleyball 3-0

JACKSON, Tenn.. – The Union University volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-18) to the University of North Alabama Saturday afternoon at Fred DeLay Gymnasium. North Alabama remains second in the GSC standings with two weeks left in the season. It was the final match of a 3-match home stretch for Union.

WHAT HAPPENED

  • Union opened the first set with four of the first six points. However, a 4-0 run from UNA put the Lions back in the lead. UNA controlled the lead for the rest of the set before scoring five of the final seven points for the win. 
  • In the second set, Union held an early 5-4 lead and then was tied at 6-6 with UNA. Another 4-0 run for UNA and the Lions took the lead for good, winning 25-16. 
  • UNA led for the entire third set, with Union staying close. After trailing 17-12, Union cut the deficit to 17-16 after a 4-0 run, but the Lions responded. UNA close out the set and the match by scoring eight of the final 10 points. 

STAT OF THE GAME

  •  North Alabama hit .291 for the match, including .488 in the second set with 13 kills and zero attack errors.

POSTMATCH STATS

  • Deja Moorer's 11 kills led Union as the only player in double figures. Moorer recorded her fourth straight set with at least 11 kills. She has recorded double figure kills in five of her last six matches. Moorer is now just 53 kills of 1,000 for her career.
  • Jessica Austin and Natasha Fomina each has 12 kills to lead North Alabama
  • Kristen Goggin led Union with two aces, Ceciley Blanchard and Christa Karns led with three blocks, Hannah Huguley led with 30 assists and Katie O'Malley led with 14 digs.
